From 19 to 21 February 2018, Mr. Dang Hoai Phuc attended the annual coordinators meeting of the International Council for Education of People with Visual Impairment (ICEVI) and the Overbrook-Nippon Network on Educational Technology (ON-NET) in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. There were also coordinators and representatives from India, Cambodia, USA, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Mongolia, Philippines and Vietnam.
On February 19, the meeting of the ON-NET and the Higher Education project's coordinators took place at Anise Villa Hotel. On that day, the representatives reported on their organization's activities in 2017 and shared about their plans for 2018. Besides, many other topics were discussed at the meeting such as the sustainability and creativity of the projects, building role models to encourage other students with visual impairment, creating job opportunities for visual impaired students after graduation, etc.
On February 20, the coordinators had the chance to meet and talk to about 30 students with visual impairment in Cambodia in the Country Champion Program of ICEVI. They shared their knowledge and experience in a number of areas including higher education, assistive technology application, soft skills, English language skills, living inclusively and finding job opportunities.
On February 21, while other coordinators returned to their home country, Mr. Phuc stayed in Cambodia and worked with the Krousal Thmey School for Deaf and Blind Children to consult and support the school in building computer learning materials, producing accessible materials and developing the Khmer speech engine.
The coordinators are going to meet again and join in the Asia Pacific Conference on Education in Manila, Philippines in the mid-October, 2018.
