Summary of the AI Skills Training Project for the Visually Impaired in Hanoi and Bac Ninh – April 2025

In today’s era of booming artificial intelligence (AI) technology, many barriers in
learning and work are being bridged through effective application of AI. Recognizing
the potential and necessity of AI accessibility for the visually impaired community,
the project “Equipping the Visually Impaired with AI Skills in Hanoi and Bac Ninh”
was implemented in March and April by the Starlight, with support from The Nippon
Foundation, through Sao Mai for the Blind.
The project aimed to equip visually impaired individuals with essential AI skills for
employment and education, while also empowering young blind people with a sense
of responsibility to share positive values within their communities.

Training in Hanoi

The project began with a training course in Hanoi, bringing together 10 eager and
community-minded young people with visual impairments. During the training,
participants were introduced to and guided on how to use various helpful AI tools
such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Be My Eyes. Additionally, they received pedagogical
training to become core trainers.

With the knowledge gained from the course and the guidance of experienced trainers,
these 10 young individuals went on to design localized training sessions tailored to the
needs of different districts in Bac Ninh province, preparing themselves to directly
deliver AI workshops in the field.

Training in Bac Ninh

Following their training in Hanoi, the core trainers conducted three separate training
sessions in Tien Du, Tu Son, and Yen Phong. Each session welcomed around 20
visually impaired participants from the local area.

The sessions focused on basic AI skills that support daily work and learning.
Participants practiced using tools such as Gemini for information search and Be My
Eyes for visual assistance. These practical lessons helped learners not only expand their technological knowledge but also grow more confident in applying AI in their
studies, work, and everyday life.

Project Outcomes

The project’s implementation in Hanoi and Bac Ninh yielded several meaningful
results:

- 10 young visually impaired individuals in Hanoi completed the training and
became core trainers, ready to share their knowledge and skills with others in
the community.

- 60 visually impaired participants in Bac Ninh gained hands-on experience
using AI tools to support learning, working, and daily tasks.

- The project raised awareness of the potential of AI technology in fostering
greater independence for the visually impaired.

- A supportive network was established between trainers and learners, helping to
encourage long-term collaboration and knowledge sharing within the
community.
