On Sunday, March 9, 2025, the closing ceremony and awards presentation for the "Look back and move forward" writing competition officially concluded the 2024 project activities of the VIC. With sponsorship from the Nippon Foundation and support from Sao Mai for the Blind, the VIC successfully organized a series of workshops aimed at supporting and enhancing the skills and capabilities of visually impaired individuals in Ho Chi Minh City.
About VIC and The 2024 Project
The VIP Companion (VIC) is a group of young visually impaired individuals established with the desire to create positive change and spread value within the community and society.
VIC's 2024 project focused on enhancing personal capabilities, improving learning and employment opportunities, and promoting the integration of visually impaired people into society.
Project Activities
Throughout 2024, VIC organized a total of 9 workshops with the participation of 52 young visually impaired individuals. Notably, 70% of the participants attended 5 or more workshops, demonstrating their long-term interest and commitment to learning.
The workshops were designed with diverse content, focusing on essential skills for learning, work, and life, including:
• Self-discovery: Guiding participants to explore personal values, identify strengths and weaknesses, and how to use them in work and life. Providing practical guidance on setting personal goals, maintaining motivation, and developing a positive mindset for success.
• Non-Verbal Communication: Instructing on the use of facial expressions and body language for effective communication.
• Professional CV Writing Skills: Guiding participants on how to create an impressive CV for job and scholarship applications.
• Interview Skills: Providing knowledge and practice in answering interview questions for scholarships and career opportunities.
• Sharing Experiences in Applying for International Scholarships: Speakers inspired and shared strategies to help young people access global learning opportunities.
• Mock Interviews with Experts: Providing real-world interview experiences with detailed feedback from experts.
Additionally, the "Look back and move forward" writing competition was a highlight of this project. The competition attracted attention not only from participants but also from individuals and organizations interested in community development. Above all, the greatest success of the competition was creating a safe and connected space for young visually impaired individuals to share personal inspiring stories, thereby spreading positive values to the community.
Summary
VIC's 2024 project achieved a lot of significant accomplishments. The workshops not only provided knowledge but also served as a place for young visually impaired individuals to interact, share, and seek support. This cohesion helped form a mutually supportive community where everyone felt heard and understood. Furthermore, by practicing useful and practical skills, participants gained comprehensive preparation for their future academic and career paths. Moreover, the project opened up opportunities to connect with experts, mentors, and potential employers. This is an important foundation for young visually impaired individuals to confidently step into society with more opportunities for development.
