SM BungSang - A Free Braille Music Translator for macOS

Main Features

SM BungSang is a free Braille music translation app for macOS that delivers high-quality Braille scores. For Windows, please use our Sao Mai Braille software.

SM BungSang is developed based on the BANA Music Braille Code 2015 and the New International Manual for Braille Music Notation. It also incorporates additional features based on advice from experienced Braille music transcribers.

The software supports translation for single instruments, solo with accompaniment, and chamber or full orchestral scores. It offers multiple formatting styles, including bar-over-bar, line-over-line, and section-by-section. In addition, it provides a wide range of translation options to help create Braille scores in different formats and layouts, tailored to various readers’ needs and country-specific conventions.

Braille output is generated in Unicode by default, with an option to use ASCII. Unicode Braille scores are automatically saved as .txt files, while ASCII Braille is saved in .brf format.

You can set page numbering and Braille paper size by specifying the number of characters per line and the number of lines per page.

For sighted transcribers, the software provides an option to show or hide the original print music view, making it easier to compare the Braille score with the original print notation.

Due to certain restrictions imposed by Apple, there are minor feature differences between the version installed from the Apple App Store and the version downloaded directly from this page. The direct distribution version allows you to open and translate additional file types into Braille, including .MSCZ, .MEI, and .MIDI, provided that MuseScore Studio is installed on your Mac.
