Overview
This full scholarship is available to disadvantaged students recommended by Sao Mai Center for the Blind. It aims to provide the student, who would otherwise be unable to access higher education, with the necessary assistance to pursue their academic goals. Scholarship Value
• 100% coverage of tuition fees for English language courses (if applicable), and a bachelor's degree at RMIT Vietnam
• RMIT Vietnam’s compulsory non-academic fees
• Monthly living stipend of VND 11,000,000
• A laptop
• Home travel allowance (if applicable)
Eligibility
• Be a citizen of Vietnam
• Have completed High School with grade 12 GPA of minimum 7.0/ 10.0 (or equivalent)
• Be visually impaired and financially disadvantaged
• Be referred by Sao Mai Center for the Blind
Selection criteria
Applications will be assessed relative to opportunity based on the following with applicants’ education opportunities, personal, health and family circumstances will be taken into account:
1. Academic potential
• Evidence of achievement in school or educational activities
• Clear and well-written application
2. Professional and Leadership potential
• Evidence of self-awareness and achievable study, career, and life goals
• Evidence of leadership, collaboration and initiative in school or community activities
3. Personal attributes
• Evidence of involvement in school or community activities that demonstrate positive personal qualities
There is a screening, shortlisting and interview process. Candidates shortlisted by Sao Mai Center for the Blind will attend the final interview with RMIT Vietnam in August or early September 2024.
How to apply
1. Check your eligibility
Check your eligibility for the scholarship. Explore and select the undergraduate program at RMIT Vietnam that you are interested in.
2. Prepare your documents
1. Scholarship Application Form;
2. A notarised copy of your High School Diploma and Academic Transcripts (those who will be graduating in 2024 may submit the High School Diploma once it’s available but not later than 30 August 2024);
3. An ID photo (size 3x4) taken at most 6 months prior to submission date;
4. A copy of your ID card or passport;
5. A current copy of your curriculum vitae (CV);
6. Evidence of your English language ability (if any);
7. Evidence of your financial status and health condition;
8. A personal statement (from 300 to maximum 500 words) stating why you should be awarded the scholarship against the above listed Selection Criteria. Please use the following to guide your writing:
◦ Your intended major (program) and goals for university;
◦ Which knowledge in your intended program will help you achieve the goal?
◦ Why RMIT should select you as an opportunity scholarship recipient?
◦ Your relevant academic, extracurricular, school, community and leadership activities.
9. Two reference letters (from 300 to maximum 500 words/each letter) which support the eligibility of the applicant for the scholarship and clearly state the reasons why the applicant should be selected using the above listed Selection Criteria.
◦ One reference letter must be from a community organisation that you have been involved with for at least 1 year (involved activities: volunteering, working, being sponsored, etc.)
◦ The other letter must be from your teacher/school
3. Submit your application
Submit all documents to Sao Mai Center for the Blind before 5:00pm (GMT+7), 12 August 2024 via one of the following methods: • Email by sending your completed application to info@saomaicenter.org. The subject of your email must be “Your full name_2024 RMIT – Sao Mai Opportunity Scholarship Application”.
• Postal service or in-person to Sao Mai Center for the Blind’s address below. The mail subject should be “Your full name_2024 RMIT - Sao Mai Opportunity Scholarship Application”.
