Privacy Policy for SM BungSang
Overview
SM BungSang is a macOS application developed by Sao Mai Center for the Blind that translates MusicXML music scores into braille notation and plays them back. This privacy policy explains what information the app does and does not collect.
Information We Do Not Collect
SM BungSang does not collect, store, or transmit any of the following:
- Personal identification information (name, email, phone number)
- Account credentials or login information
- Usage analytics, telemetry, or crash reports beyond what Apple's standard system tools provide
- Location data
- Device identifiers
- Contact lists, calendars, or photos
- Microphone or camera input
- Browsing or search history
The app does not contain any third-party advertising, tracking, or analytics SDKs.
Information Processed Locally
The following data is processed entirely on your Mac and never leaves your device:
- Music score files you choose to open (MusicXML, MXL, and similar formats) — these are read from disk, translated, and the results displayed or saved according to your instructions.
- User preferences — settings such as braille table choice, output format (Unicode or ASCII/BRF), pagination preferences, and saved profiles. These are stored in standard macOS preference files within your user account on your Mac.
- Recently opened files — a list of files you've recently opened, stored locally as security-scoped bookmarks so the app can re-open them with your permission.
This data is stored in standard macOS locations on your Mac (such as ~/Library/Preferences/ and ~/Library/Application Support/) and is accessible only to your user account, subject to the macOS App Sandbox.
File Access
SM BungSang accesses files on your Mac only when you explicitly choose them — for example, by using the "Open" dialog, dragging a file onto the app, or double-clicking a music score file in Finder. The app cannot access files you have not explicitly opened, in accordance with macOS sandbox restrictions.
Network Activity
SM BungSang does not make any network connections in normal operation. The app functions entirely offline.
Children's Privacy
SM BungSang does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. The app is suitable for use by people of all ages, including young students learning braille music notation.
Accessibility and Mission
SM BungSang is developed by Sao Mai Center for the Blind to serve the blind and visually impaired community. Accessibility is the core purpose of the app, not a side feature. We are committed to keeping the app fully usable with VoiceOver and other macOS accessibility technologies, and to maintaining its privacy-respecting design as a matter of principle.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make material changes, the updated policy will be posted at the same URL where you found this policy. The "Effective date" at the top of the policy will reflect when it was last updated.
